The banjo shown here has a 200 year old cypress neck, a heart pine tailpiece, and flowerspot soundholes. It has three long strings and one short 'thumb' string.

The banjo shown in this engraving in Sloan's Voyage shows a banjo with the same basic design as the banjo in the "Old Plantation" watercolor but was apparently made by someone with a little more time to add some ornament to the neck and head.
